Long after degrees have been conferred and careers have been launched, many folks just can’t seem to quit school. For them, life provides an overstuffed cornucopia of educational opportunities that don’t necessarily require hefty loans and navigating different professorial strategies.

Those with a lust for learning who happen to also enjoy testing the limits of what the iPad offers definitely don’t have to worry about finding resources to pique their fancy. Hundreds, if not thousands, of apps are out there just twitching for users to fire them up and absorb a mental nugget or two.

Εναρκτήρια συνάντηση του ερευνητικού έργου eTrees

ΠΡΟΜΕΑ (Εταιρεία Προαγωγής Μεθοδολογιών Έρευνας και Ανάπτυξης) διοργάνωσε στην Αθήνα την εναρκτήρια συνάντηση του ερευνητικού έργου eTrees, στις 22 και 23 Νοεμβρίου 2012, με τη συμμετοχή 14 αντιπροσώπων από έξι συμμετέχοντες εταίρους στην κοινοπραξία. Το έργο συγχρηματοδοτείται από την Ε.Ε. μέσω του προγράμματος Lifelong Learning Programme, και έχει διάρκεια δύο ετών (Νοέμβριος 2012 – Οκτώβριος 2014).

Ανάπτυξη μίας διαδικτυακής υπηρεσίας που θα φιλοξενεί ηλεκτρονικά παιχνίδια μάθησης για την εξάσκηση, αξιολόγηση και βελτίωση των επικοινωνιακών ικανοτήτων που απαιτούνται στο χώρο εργασίας.
· Ανάπτυξη μιας αντίστοιχης μεθοδολογίας που θα επιτρέπει σε εκπαιδευτές, οργανισμούς και επιχειρήσεις να αξιοποιούν τα αποτελέσματα του έργου...
Το έργο επικεντρώνεται στην εκπαίδευση εργαζομένων στο χρηματοπιστωτικό τομέα, λαμβάνοντας παράλληλα υπόψη τις ανάγκες και τις απαιτήσεις υπαλλήλων από τον ευρύτερο χώρο της παροχής υπηρεσιών.

Τι περιλαμβάνει το eTrees;

· Ανάπτυξη διαδικτυακών εκπαιδευτικών υπηρεσιών.
· Εκπόνηση μελετών και διοργάνωση focus groups (συναντήσεις ομάδων εστίασης).
· Κατάρτιση μεθοδολογιών εκπαίδευσης μέσω ηλεκτρονικών παιχνιδιών.
· Ανάπτυξη εργαλείων συγγραφής ιστοριών για εκπαιδευτές.
· Διεξαγωγή συνεδριών υβριδικής μάθησης, συνεδριών, εργαστηρίων και εκδηλώσεων.

Abstract

This three-year Virtual Measurements Environment curriculum development project for higher education within the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union is the result of intense collaboration among four institutions, teaching applied sciences and technology. It aims to apply the principles and possibilities of evolved distance and e-learning in originally traditional course materials and laboratory experiments during all the stages of the learning and assimilating process. One of the challenges for the consortium was the use of a common electronic learning platform. By filling in questionnaires the students at the partner institutions could contribute to the usefulness of the developed outcomes. Some students even volunteered to go abroad to a partner institution for a short time to execute and evaluate some tasks and laboratory experiments, and thus creating added value to the e-learning possibilities.

The project outcomes are diverse, ranging from physics to electronics. Subsequently, they can be integrated into a broad spectrum of topics. When taking all the developed modules and laboratory experiments the student is awarded a maximum of 20 ECTS credits.

On the whole, this Erasmus project was fascinating not in the least because of the possibilities of the blended problem-based learning model and the difficulties raised by the common electronic learning platform – both technically and pedagogically.

Higher education and adult motivation towards lifelong learning

SUMMARY

The increasing role of higher education (HE) in lifelong learning processes seems to be a trend in the global context of the knowledge society. As in many other European countries, the rapid expansion of HE in Portugal in the last decades has resulted from democratisation of access and increase of participation at the tertiary level of education. The Portuguese post-graduate offer at universities has also increased and diversified in recent years, proving that there is a need for post-initial education across the lifespan of individuals. In this article, we intend to discuss some of the results obtained through a survey centred on the educational and professional trajectories of post-graduates from a group of Portuguese universities. We try to understand adult perspectives about learning and discuss the adult motivational dynamics towards their future learning.
