April 2010

In Greece the Ministry of Education today has the main governmental responsibility
for the devising and promotion of strategies and mechanisms aiming to ensure the
quality of formal and non-formal LLL provisions to adults. In parallel to the Ministry of Education, it is also the Ministry of Labour which is responsible for quality assurance in the continuing vocational training sector.
Quality assurance frameworks established by law for the accreditation of E&T
providers in the field of non-formal education sector are in effect mainly on two types of providers, the initial vocational training providers IEKs and the continuing vocational training providers KEKs. Most other types of providers, particularly those operating in the private sector of LLL provision, have only recently become object of regulatory interventions with implications regarding the implementation of quality assurance mechanisms.
